Wrocław
You can be here in September for about €952, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Prime time in September: 22°C days.
Late spring and early autumn are the seasons for the river islands and the beer gardens along the Odra; summer brings festivals and hot afternoons. Winter is cold and the Christmas market fills the Rynek, otherwise the city is quiet and cheap between semesters.
Best months here: May, June, September. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Wrocław was German Breslau until 1945, then repopulated from Lwów, and the city keeps both layers: a Gothic market square and cathedral island, Prussian brick and bridges, and a student population of over 100,000 that runs the evenings. Its bronze dwarf statues are a gimmick that works. It suits people who want a Polish city without Kraków's crowds.
What you can do
- 01Walk the Rynek and the Salt Square at night when the lamplighter lights the gas lamps on Ostrów Tumski.
- 02Climb the Cathedral of St John's tower by lift for the islands and the bridges.
- 03See the Racławice Panorama, a 114-metre circular painting from 1894, next to the National Museum.
- 04Visit the Centennial Hall, Max Berg's 1913 concrete dome, and the Japanese garden beside it.
- 05Count dwarfs along the way; the first ones near the Rynek mark Orange Alternative protest sites.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay in the Stare Miasto for a first visit, Ostrów Tumski for quiet; Nadodrze for value and a more local feel.
