Why now
Prime time in February: 24°C days, dry, sea 20°C.
November to March is when the Corniche and the desert are walkable; summer keeps the city inside malls and hotels, with rates to match. Ramadan changes eating hours and dims the daytime, and the souk is at its best on winter evenings.
Best months here: March, November, December. February is not one of them — the label above measures the month against a fixed bar, not against the rest of the year here. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Doha is a capital built around a bay, with a skyline at West Bay, a museum by I. M. Pei on its own island and a rebuilt souk that has become the city's living room after dark. It is orderly, expensive and easy, more a long stopover than a destination, but the museums and the Corniche fill two days well. It suits people breaking a flight or wanting a Gulf city with less sprawl than Dubai.
What you can do
- 01Walk the Museum of Islamic Art's galleries and then the park behind it for the skyline across the bay.
- 02Spend an evening in Souq Waqif: falcons, spice alleys, a karak tea and dinner on the main alley.
- 03See the National Museum of Qatar's desert-rose building and its story of pearling and gas.
- 04Ride the Red Line metro to Katara Cultural Village and walk its amphitheatre and beach.
- 05Drive to the Inland Sea at Khor Al Adaid, where the dunes meet the Gulf, with a licensed guide.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay around Msheireb or the souk for walking and the metro; West Bay for business and the Pearl for a resort feel. Anywhere else needs a taxi for every outing.
Unusual things
- ◦Al Zubarah, the ruined pearling town and fort on the northwest coast, Qatar's World Heritage site, about 90 minutes out.
- ◦Richard Serra's East-West/West-East, four steel plates walked across the Brouq desert reserve near Zekreet.
- ◦The Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art in Education City, rarely crowded and stronger than expected.
