Barbados
You can be here in October for about €1,549, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Good time in October: 31°C days, 22 rainy days, sea 30°C, fares below average.
The dry season during the northern winter is the busy one, when the west-coast hotels fill; the wetter months are hotter with short showers and far cheaper, and hurricanes usually pass north of the island. Crop Over fills the summer's end with music and parades.
Best months here: February, March, April. October is not one of them — the label above measures the month against a fixed bar, not against the rest of the year here. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled". This page stands for a whole country, and its weather is measured at one point — 13.10°, -59.62°, near Bridgetown. Somewhere else in Barbados the numbers will differ.
The place

Barbados is the Caribbean's most English island and its most organised, a coral limestone place with a calm west coast, a wild Atlantic east, rum shops on every corner and a cricket culture taken seriously. It suits first-time Caribbean visitors and people who want a beach with a working society around it.
What you can do
- 01Swim with turtles off Carlisle Bay in the morning, then walk into Bridgetown's Garrison and the Parliament buildings.
- 02Eat fried fish and macaroni pie at the Oistins Friday-night fish fry, then stay for the music.
- 03Drive the east coast to Bathsheba's rock formations and watch the surfers at Soup Bowl.
- 04Tour Mount Gay or St Nicholas Abbey and taste rum where it has been made since the 1700s.
- 05Take the Harrison's Cave tram through the limestone caverns in the centre of the island.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
The south coast for value and buses, the west coast for calm water and quiet; the east is for a night or two if surfing or silence is the point.

Good to know
Manchineel trees along beaches are marked with red bands; their sap and fruit burn, and standing under one in rain is a bad idea.
