Agadir
You can be here in August for about €662, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Prime time in August: 28°C days, dry, sea 22°C, peak fares.
Winter and spring have the surf swells and warm sun while Europe is grey; summer is milder than the interior but the beaches fill with Moroccan families. The sea is cool all year, and morning fog on the coast is common until the sun clears it.
Best months here: September, October, November. August is not one of them — the label above measures the month against a fixed bar, not against the rest of the year here. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake as a modern beach resort, which is what it is: a wide sand bay, a long promenade, hotels in a grid and not much history. Taghazout, twenty minutes north, is the reason surfers come, a fishing village turned board-rental town with reliable winter points. It suits people after winter sun with a surf lesson, and it is the door to the Anti-Atlas and the argan country.
What you can do
- 01Surf Anchor Point or the beginner beaches at Taghazout and Tamraght with a local school in the morning.
- 02Walk up to the Kasbah ruins on the hill above Agadir for the bay, rebuilt walls and the cable car.
- 03Eat grilled fish at the port's open-air stalls, chosen from the ice and priced by weight.
- 04Go to the Souk El Had, the city's covered market of spices, argan and produce, on a weekday morning.
- 05Drive into the Tamraght valley gorge in the High Atlas foothills for rock pools, or to the Tafraoute granite further south.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay on the seafront for a resort holiday, in Taghazout or Tamraght for surf and cafés; Talborjt is the budget choice with the most local life.
Unusual things
- ◦The Crocoparc outside town, a crocodile park in botanical gardens that is better than the name suggests for families.
- ◦Imouzzer Ida Ou Tanane, a mountain village above the Tamraght gorge with a seasonal waterfall and honey producers.
- ◦Tiznit's silver souk and the walled town, an hour south on the way to Tafraoute and Legzira's arches.
