Abu Dhabi
You can be here in March for about €1,085, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Prime time in March: 28°C days, dry, sea 23°C.
Winter is the season for beaches, the Formula 1 weekend at Yas and the outdoor festivals; summer is indoor time with hotel rates to match. Friday mornings are quiet, and the mosque closes to visitors during prayers and for parts of Friday.
Best months here: January, November, December. March is not one of them — the label above measures the month against a fixed bar, not against the rest of the year here. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Abu Dhabi is the capital and the quieter, richer sibling: a grid of towers on an island, a corniche, a great white mosque and a cultural district on Saadiyat that is still being finished. It has less of Dubai's noise and more of its own agenda, which suits a slower week. The desert to the south, with the Liwa dunes and Al Ain's oases, is the part most visitors never see.
What you can do
- 01Visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the last hour before sunset, dressed for it, then stay for the lighting.
- 02Spend a morning at Louvre Abu Dhabi under Nouvel's dome, then swim at Saadiyat's public beach.
- 03Walk the Corniche from the Heritage Village side and eat at the fish market in Al Mina.
- 04See the Qasr Al Hosn fort, the oldest building in the city, and the House of Artisans beside it.
- 05Kayak the Eastern Mangroves at high tide, early, when the herons are out and the towers are quiet.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay on the Corniche for the city and Saadiyat for beach and museums; Yas is for the circuit and theme parks only.
Unusual things
- ◦Al Ain's Jebel Hafeet, a road to the summit above the oasis with the whole Omani border country below.
- ◦The Rub' al Khali dunes at Liwa, where the sand rises to over 300 metres near the Moreeb dune.
- ◦Jubail Mangrove Park's boardwalk, a free loop through the mangroves opposite Saadiyat.
