Perth
You can be here in February for about €2,239, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Prime time in February: 31°C days, dry, sea 24°C.
Spring brings the wildflower season across the state and the mildest weather; autumn is warm and dry with the sea still swimmable. Summer heat above forty degrees is common, and the afternoon sea breeze, the Fremantle Doctor, is the city's daily relief.
Best months here: January, February, November. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Perth is the most isolated large city on earth, a low, sunny sprawl on the Swan River with Indian Ocean beaches at the end of most streets. It suits people who want beaches, wine and space with a city's conveniences, and who accept that the interesting country starts a long drive away.
What you can do
- 01Walk or cycle Kings Park at sunrise for the skyline across the river and the bushland trails.
- 02Take the train to Fremantle for the markets, the prison tour and a beer at the Little Creatures brewery.
- 03Ferry to Rottnest Island, hire a bike and swim at The Basin; look for quokkas at dusk.
- 04Swim at Cottesloe in the morning and eat fish and chips on the grass in the evening.
- 05Eat in Northbridge's Chinatown or along Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley, where the city goes out.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
The CBD for convenience, Fremantle for character, Cottesloe for the beach; most of the city's interest is outside the centre.
Unusual things
- ◦The WA Museum Boola Bardip's Aboriginal galleries, and the Perth Mint's gold pour a few streets away.
- ◦The Pinnacles Desert at Nambung, limestone pillars on a sand plain, about two hours north.
- ◦Penguin Island off Rockingham, an hour south, with a small penguin colony and sea lions on the sandbar.
