Dallas
You can be here in July for about €1,069, 4 days, direct.
Why now
Off season in July: 35°C days.
Spring and autumn are the usable months; midsummer keeps everyone indoors from late morning onward. Two events reshape the hotel market — the State Fair fills Dallas in autumn, the stock show and rodeo fills Fort Worth in winter — and both are worth either attending or avoiding deliberately.
Best months here: March, October, November. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Dallas and Fort Worth are two cities thirty miles apart that share an airport and very little else: Dallas is glass, money and restaurants, Fort Worth is stockyards, a cattle-town grid and three of the best art museums in the United States. The metroplex between them is highway and suburb, so a trip here works as a series of destinations rather than a walk. Come for the food and the museums, not the skyline.
What you can do
- 01Give the Kimbell Art Museum a full morning; Kahn's concrete vaults matter as much as what hangs under them.
- 02See Dealey Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum, then walk to the Nasher and the Dallas Museum of Art.
- 03Eat barbecue early: the serious places in Deep Ellum and Oak Cliff sell out by mid-afternoon.
- 04Watch the twice-daily cattle drive in the Fort Worth Stockyards, then move on before the souvenir crowd.
- 05Spend an evening on the live music blocks of Deep Ellum, or Bishop Arts for dinner without the noise.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Base yourself in Uptown or Bishop Arts for Dallas and the Cultural District for Fort Worth, and pick one rather than splitting nights; downtown Dallas hotels are convenient on weekdays and deserted at weekends.
Unusual things
- ◦Fair Park's 1936 Texas Centennial buildings, one of the largest collections of art deco architecture anywhere, near-empty outside fair season.
- ◦The Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff, where Oswald was arrested, still running as a cinema and bar.
- ◦The Fort Worth Water Gardens, Philip Johnson's sunken concrete canyon of falling water beside the convention centre.

- Getting around
- This is a driving region and a rental car saves hours. DART's Orange Line runs from downtown Dallas to DFW Terminal A in about 50 minutes, TEXRail links the airport to downtown Fort Worth, and the Trinity Railway Express connects the two downtowns in roughly an hour on weekdays and Saturdays but not Sundays.

Good to know
Summer heat is severe enough to plan around, and spring brings thunderstorms, hail and occasional tornado warnings that can delay flights at one of the busiest airports in the country.
