Why now
Shoulder season in February: 10°C days.
Late spring and September to October are the easy months, with terraces open and no August shutdown, when many family restaurants and small shops close for weeks. Fashion weeks and big trade fairs push hotel prices up sharply; the major museums need timed tickets in every season now.
Best months here: May, June, September. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Paris is a dense, walkable city of six-storey stone, where the great museums and the corner bakeries are both taken seriously and the metro gets you anywhere in twenty minutes. It is not as unfriendly as its reputation, but it is brisk, and it rewards people who learn the rhythms: lunch at half past twelve, dinner at eight, Monday and Tuesday museum closures. It suits repeat visitors who pick one arrondissement at a time.
What you can do
- 01Book a timed slot at the Musée d'Orsay, then walk the river to Notre-Dame, reopened after the fire.
- 02Spend a morning on the Île Saint-Louis and in the Marais, buying bread at Poilâne and cheese on Rue de Bretagne.
- 03Climb the Sacré-Cœur dome, then leave Montmartre's square for the streets behind Rue Caulaincourt.
- 04Eat a menu du jour at a bistro in the 11th, around Rue de Charonne, and reserve a day ahead.
- 05Take the RER to Versailles or the metro to the Bois de Vincennes for a Sunday on the grass.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay in the 3rd to 6th for a first visit, or the 10th and 11th for evenings; avoid the streets immediately around the Gare du Nord and the Champs-Élysées end of the 8th, where you pay for the address.
Unusual things
- ◦The Musée Nissim de Camondo on Parc Monceau, a banker's house left exactly as furnished in the 1930s.
- ◦The Petite Ceinture, the abandoned ring railway, walkable in stretches in the 15th and 20th arrondissements.
- ◦Père Lachaise cemetery at opening time on a weekday, with a map and no destination in mind.

Good to know
Petition and string-bracelet scams around Montmartre and the Eiffel Tower are persistent, and pickpockets work the crowded metro lines; nothing dangerous, just tiresome.
