Miami
You can be here in November for about €1,363, 4 days, direct.
Why now
Prime time in November: 27°C days, sea 26°C, fares below average.
Winter is the season, when the rest of the country is cold and hotels fill with the art fair and the boat show; late spring is quieter, hot and still dry. Hurricane season runs June to November, with the highest risk in late summer, and the humidity then is hard work.
Best months here: March, April, November. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Miami is two cities on either side of Biscayne Bay: the Art Deco beach resort of Miami Beach and the sprawling Spanish-speaking mainland with Little Havana, Little Haiti and the towers of Brickell. It suits people who want warm sea, Cuban food and late nights, and who do not mind that almost everything involves a car or a bridge.
What you can do
- 01Walk the Art Deco district along Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue early, before the strip turns into a bar crawl.
- 02Eat a Cubano and drink a cafecito at a ventanita on Calle Ocho, then watch dominoes at Máximo Gómez Park.
- 03Take the free Metromover loop for the downtown skyline, then the Pérez Art Museum on the bay.
- 04Spend an afternoon in Wynwood's murals and Little Haiti's galleries, and the Design District's shops.
- 05Kayak or paddleboard from Virginia Key or Oleta River State Park among mangroves, with the city behind.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay in South Beach for the beach and nights, Mid-Beach for a resort, Brickell or Coconut Grove if you would rather be on the mainland; anything west of the airport is far from all of it.
Unusual things
- ◦The Kampong in Coconut Grove, David Fairchild's tropical plant collection on the bay, open by reservation.
- ◦Stiltsville, the handful of wooden houses standing in Biscayne Bay's flats, seen by boat from Key Biscayne.
- ◦The Deering Estate at Cutler, a 1920s house on the bay with a mangrove boardwalk and an archaeological site.
