Perugia
You can be here in November for about €507, 4 days, direct.
Why now
Good time in November: 13°C days, fares below average.
Perugia's big festivals, the summer jazz weeks and the autumn chocolate fair, fill every room in the region; go before or after them. Assisi is at its most crowded around the major religious feasts and on Sunday mornings, so weekdays and the shoulder seasons make the difference.
Best months here: June, September, October. November is not one of them — the label above measures the month against a fixed bar, not against the rest of the year here. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Perugia is a hill capital of medieval stone, escalators through Rocca Paolina's buried streets, and two universities that keep the bars open, sitting over an Umbrian landscape of olive terraces and towns on ridges. Umbria is Tuscany without the coach parks; it suits people who want art, walking and long lunches without a booking system.
What you can do
- 01Walk Corso Vannucci at passeggiata hour, then see the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria for Perugino and Piero della Francesca.
- 02Go down through the Rocca Paolina, the streets the Pope buried under a fortress, on the escalators from Piazza Partigiani.
- 03Take the train to Assisi and see Giotto's frescoes in the Basilica of San Francesco before ten.
- 04Eat torta al testo stuffed with sausage and greens, and strangozzi with black truffle, in a trattoria near Via dei Priori.
- 05Drive to Spello and Montefalco for the flower-lined lanes and Sagrantino wine.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay inside the walls near Corso Vannucci, arriving by escalator or minimetro rather than trying to drive in; the station area is convenient and dull. Assisi suits a second night.
