Zurich
You can be here in June for about €1,340, 4 days, direct.
Why now
Good time in June: 25°C days, 13 rainy days.
Summer is the season the city is built for, when the lake baths and river 'Badis' open and evenings stretch along the quays; the rest of the year it is a museum-and-restaurant city. Trade fairs and the spring Sechseläuten week push hotel rates up sharply.
Best months here: February, September, December. June is not one of them — the label above measures the month against a fixed bar, not against the rest of the year here. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Zurich is a banking city that behaves like a lake resort in summer: people swim in the Limmat on their lunch break, trams run to the minute, and the old town along Niederdorf is smaller and gentler than the money suggests. It suits a short, orderly stay, and works better as a base for the mountains than as a week-long destination in itself.
What you can do
- 01Swim at Frauenbad Stadthausquai or Oberer Letten, then dry off with a drink at the same bar in the evening.
- 02See the Chagall windows in Fraumünster and the Giacometti windows in Grossmünster, a five-minute walk apart.
- 03Ride the Polybahn funicular up to the ETH terrace for the standard view of the old town and the lake.
- 04Spend a rainy afternoon at the Kunsthaus, whose Chipperfield extension holds the Bührle collection and the Giacometti rooms.
- 05Walk the Freitag tower and Viadukt arches in Zürich-West, the old industrial quarter turned shops and restaurants.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay near the Hauptbahnhof or in Niederdorf for a first visit; Zürich-West if you want evenings. The airport hotels are a poor trade for saving twelve minutes of train.
Unusual things
- ◦The Cabaret Voltaire on Spiegelgasse, where Dada started in 1916, still open as a small bar and event space.
- ◦Museum Rietberg in Villa Wesendonck, a non-European art collection in a park where Wagner once lodged.
- ◦The Uetliberg, reached by the S10 train in twenty minutes, for a ridge walk to Felsenegg and the cable car down to Adliswil.
