Prague
You can be here in June for about €1,263, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Prime time in June: 25°C days.
The city is crowded in all seasons, with summer and the Advent markets the peaks; late autumn and late winter give the same architecture with the bridge half-empty at dawn. Spring brings the Prague Spring music festival and full hotels for a few weeks.
Best months here: May, June, September. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Prague survived the twentieth century with its Gothic and baroque centre intact, and the price of that is thirty years of mass tourism concentrated in about six streets. Step three blocks from the Charles Bridge and it is a working central European capital of beer halls, trams and 1930s apartment blocks. It suits people prepared to leave the Royal Way and use the tram.
What you can do
- 01Cross the Charles Bridge before seven, then climb through Malá Strana to the castle and St Vitus before the coaches.
- 02Drink unpasteurised Pilsner in a Žižkov or Vinohrady beer hall rather than the Old Town Square terraces.
- 03See the Mucha Slav Epic canvases, the cubist houses on Neklanova, and Josip Plečnik's church in Vinohrady.
- 04Walk the Jewish Quarter's synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery early, on one ticket.
- 05Ride tram 22 from Národní třída past the castle to Strahov monastery and the Petřín hill.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay in Vinohrady or Malá Strana for a first visit; the Old Town works if you want to walk to everything and accept the noise. Avoid Wenceslas Square's cheaper end at night.
Unusual things
- ◦Vyšehrad, the older citadel south of the centre, with the cemetery where Dvořák and Smetana are buried and views back over the river.
- ◦The Žižkov TV tower's climbing babies by David Černý, and the small Jewish cemetery at its foot.
- ◦DOX centre for contemporary art in Holešovice, with an airship auditorium on the roof.
