Toronto
You can be here in September for about €1,549, 4 days, direct.
Why now
Prime time in September: 22°C days.
Summer and early autumn are when the patios, islands and lakefront work, with the film festival filling hotels for ten days in general terms; winter is grey and cold but the museums and PATH tunnels make it manageable. Big hockey and baseball nights push prices up around the Rogers Centre and Scotiabank Arena.
Best months here: February, June, September. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Toronto is a city of neighbourhoods on a lake, half its people born elsewhere, with a downtown of glass towers and streetcars and the real life in the ethnic strips along Dundas, Bloor and Danforth. It suits eaters and people who like a big, safe, orderly city; the sights are few and the point is the districts.
What you can do
- 01Take the ferry to the Toronto Islands and cycle to Hanlan's Point for the skyline from the water.
- 02Walk Kensington Market's second-hand shops and Chinatown along Spadina, then Graffiti Alley off Queen West.
- 03Spend a morning in the Art Gallery of Ontario, its Gehry staircase and the Group of Seven rooms.
- 04Eat through the strips: Greek on the Danforth, Portuguese on Dundas West, dim sum in Scarborough.
- 05Walk St. Lawrence Market on a Saturday for a peameal bacon sandwich, then the Distillery District's brick lanes.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay in Queen West or the Annex for streets to walk in the evening; downtown towers are fine for a short trip but anonymous.
