Zakynthos
You can be here in November for about €598, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Good time in November: 20°C days, 14 rainy days, sea 22°C, fares below average.
May, June and late September to October give the west coast boat trips without the August crowds, with the sea warm from June, and the turtle-nesting season means Laganas beaches are closed at night through the summer. Winter is wet and most of the island shuts.
Best months here: June, September, October. November is not one of them — the label above measures the month against a fixed bar, not against the rest of the year here. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Zakynthos is two islands sharing one coast road: a cliff-edged west where Navagio's shipwreck cove is the most photographed beach in Greece, and a flat south-east of package resorts around Laganas bay where loggerhead turtles still come ashore to nest. It suits people who accept the resort economy and drive away from it, and families who want shallow sandy water.
What you can do
- 01Take a small boat from Porto Vromi or Volimes to Navagio early, or see it from the cliff platform.
- 02Swim into the Blue Caves at Skinari by boat, then walk to the lighthouse at the island's north tip.
- 03Watch turtles in Laganas bay from a licensed boat, keeping the required distance, and visit the rescue centre at Gerakas.
- 04Drive the west coast from Keri to Volimes for the cliffs, the villages and a lunch at Kambi.
- 05Spend an evening in Zakynthos Town's Solomos square and the Byzantine Museum, rebuilt after 1953.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
A first visit should stay in Zakynthos Town or Vasilikos for the quiet and the marine park; Tsilivi suits families, Laganas only suits the nights it was built for.
Unusual things
- ◦Keri lighthouse and the cliffs at the island's south-west tip, with tavernas at the top and caves below.
- ◦The monastery of Anafonitria, where St Dionysios lived, in the hills above Navagio.
- ◦Marathonisi, the turtle-shaped islet in Laganas bay reached by boat from Keri, with a sandy beach and caves.

- Getting around
- The airport is 15 minutes from town by taxi; KTEL buses link town with the main resorts a few times a day. A car is needed for the west coast and the north, and the cliff roads are narrow.

Good to know
Navagio beach itself has been closed to landings since 2023 after rockfalls and the cove is viewed from boats or the cliff platform; check the current status before booking a trip that promises the sand.
