Turin
You can be here in October for about €678, 4 days, direct.
Why now
Prime time in October: 19°C days, fares below average.
Autumn is the season: white truffle from Alba, the harvest in the Langhe, the film festival, and clear days when the Alps appear at the end of every street. The book fair in spring books out the city; August is quiet and half the cafés close.
Best months here: June, September, October. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Turin is a grid of arcades and Baroque squares under the Alps, with the Savoy court's palaces, Fiat's old factories and cafés that invented the bicerin. It suits people who like museums and chocolate and are happy in a city that does not perform for visitors; it is calmer and more formal than anywhere else in northern Italy.
What you can do
- 01See the Egyptian Museum, second in size only to Cairo's, then the Museum of Cinema inside the Mole Antonelliana.
- 02Drink a bicerin at Caffè Al Bicerin on Piazza della Consolata, then buy gianduiotti from a historic chocolatier.
- 03Walk the arcades of Via Po to Piazza Vittorio Veneto and cross the bridge to the Gran Madre and Monte dei Cappuccini.
- 04See the Palazzo Reale and its armoury on Piazza Castello, then Guarini's restored Chapel of the Shroud next door.
- 05Eat agnolotti del plin, vitello tonnato and bagna cauda, and take the evening aperitivo in a San Salvario bar.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay in the Quadrilatero or around Piazza Carlo Alberto for a first visit; San Salvario for nightlife, Crocetta for quiet. Lingotto is far from everything worth seeing.
Unusual things
- ◦The Lingotto rooftop test track on top of the old Fiat factory, with the Pinacoteca Agnelli beside it.
- ◦The Museo della Frutta, a collection of nineteenth-century wax fruit models by Francesco Garnier Valletti.
- ◦Superga basilica on its hill, reached by the rack tramway from Sassi, with the Savoy tombs and the Grande Torino memorial.
