Mauritius
You can be here in June for about €1,474, 4 days, direct.
Why now
Prime time in June: 26°C days, sea 26°C.
The southern winter is dry, windy on the east coast and pleasant elsewhere; the hot season brings humidity and the cyclone risk. Diwali, Chinese New Year and Cavadee bring processions that are worth planning around if you like festivals and avoiding if you want the roads clear.
Best months here: June, September, October. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled". This page stands for a whole country, and its weather is measured at one point — -20.16°, 57.50°, near Plaine Magnien. Somewhere else in Mauritius the numbers will differ.
The place

Mauritius is a volcanic island ringed by reef and lagoon, with a Hindu-Creole-Franco-Chinese population that shows in the food, the temples and the fact that everyone switches languages mid-sentence. Beyond the resort strip it is sugar cane, mountain trails and small towns with good street food. It suits couples and families who want easy beaches and something to do on the third day.
What you can do
- 01Hike Le Morne Brabant early, a UNESCO site with a steep final scramble.
- 02Eat dholl puri from a street stall in Port Louis, then a Chinese lunch in Chinatown.
- 03Walk through Black River Gorges National Park to the viewpoints above the west coast.
- 04Snorkel Blue Bay Marine Park or take a catamaran to Île aux Cerfs.
- 05Visit the Aapravasi Ghat, where indentured labourers landed, and the Central Market beside it.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
The west coast around Flic en Flac or Tamarin suits a first visit for sunsets and calm seas in any season; the east is best in the hot months, the north for a lively town.

Good to know
The cyclone season brings occasional storms that close the airport and beaches for a day or two; reef shoes help on the lagoon floor, where stonefish are rare but real.
