Delhi, Agra
You can be here in February for about €720, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Prime time in February: 24°C days, dry.
The window is short: the cool months from roughly November to February are pleasant but Delhi's air is at its worst then, while by April the heat is punishing across Rajasthan. Rajasthan's fairs and festivals cluster in the cooler season, when hotels in Jaipur and Udaipur book out.
Best months here: February, November, December. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Delhi is several cities piled on each other, Mughal tombs and Lutyens' avenues and a metro that outpaces most of Europe, and it is the usual gate to the Golden Triangle of Agra and Jaipur and the desert forts beyond. It suits people who can take noise and air pollution in exchange for depth; nobody finds it restful.
What you can do
- 01Walk Humayun's Tomb in the early morning, then Nizamuddin's shrine for Thursday evening qawwali.
- 02Take the metro to Chandni Chowk, eat parathas in Paranthe Wali Gali, then the Jama Masjid's minaret for the view.
- 03See the Taj Mahal at opening from the west gate, then Agra Fort; skip the sunset crowd on the Mehtab Bagh side.
- 04Spend a day in Jaipur's old city: Hawa Mahal from the street, Jantar Mantar, Amber Fort by the back road.
- 05Go on to Jodhpur or Udaipur if time allows: Mehrangarh's ramparts over blue houses, or a boat on Lake Pichola.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
In Delhi, stay in South Delhi near a metro station rather than the Paharganj hostels by the railway station; in Rajasthan, converted havelis in the old cities are the point of the trip.
Unusual things
- ◦Agrasen ki Baoli, a fourteenth-century stepwell hidden behind office blocks off Hailey Road near Connaught Place.
- ◦Mehrauli Archaeological Park, where centuries of tombs and mosques sit in scrub a short walk from Qutb Minar's ticket queues.
- ◦Bundi in southern Rajasthan, a fort town of stepwells and murals that the Golden Triangle circuit leaves out.
