Orlando
You can be here in October for about €1,350, 4 days, 1 stop.
Why now
Prime time in October: 28°C days, fares below average.
Crowds here follow school calendars rather than weather, so term-time weekdays are the difference between a twenty-minute queue and an hour. Summer afternoons bring thunderstorms that close outdoor rides for a while, and heat that makes midday in a park hard work.
Best months here: February, November, December. October is not one of them — the label above measures the month against a fixed bar, not against the rest of the year here. Daytime highs, sea temperature and rainy days from three years of Open-Meteo reanalysis; a rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of rain, which is the WMO threshold and not the same as "it drizzled".
The place

Orlando is two places sharing a name: the engineered resort corridor south of the city, and an ordinary Florida town of lakes, oak streets and immigrant restaurants north of it. Most visitors only see the first, which is a machine that works well if you plan for it and punishes improvisation. The second is where the city actually eats.
What you can do
- 01Pick one resort and stay with it; shuttling between Disney and Universal loses half a day to Interstate 4.
- 02Book park entry and ride reservations in the app the night before; walk-up waits stretch after mid-morning.
- 03Spend a morning in Winter Park: Park Avenue, the Morse Museum's Tiffany glass, the boat tour across the lakes.
- 04Eat along Mills 50, the Vietnamese quarter, for pho and banh mi well away from the resort corridor.
- 05Cool off at Wekiwa Springs State Park, a constant-temperature spring half an hour north of downtown.
Where to stay · neighbourhoods
Stay inside a park resort if the trip is about the parks and early entry matters; choose Winter Park or downtown if it is not, and accept that either way you will drive.
Unusual things
- ◦Gatorland on South Orange Blossom Trail, an alligator farm from the 1940s that predates every theme park here.
- ◦The Mennello Museum of American Art in Loch Haven Park, built around Earl Cunningham's folk paintings.
- ◦Orlando Wetlands Park in Christmas, a working water treatment marsh with miles of levee trails, alligators and waders.

Good to know
Hurricane season runs from early summer to late autumn and can close parks and airports at short notice; take travel insurance that covers weather disruption and watch the forecast in the days before flying.
